REAL PROJECTS
Some of our work completed and operating today
SEATTLE NEW CONSTRUCTION SFR
SKN Installed all hydronic in-floor heating here. The main floor is a monolithic slab-on-grade foundation with in-slab radiant tubing. The second and third floors were done over the subfloor, embedded in lightweight concrete, also known as gypcrete. Approximate cost to heat this 3,500 sf home is $120/month. The efficiency is due to concrete, which is able to absorb and hold heat for very long periods of time because of its inherent thermal mass.
NORTH SEATTLE CONVERSION TO HP
This is an air-to-water heat pump system, operating today in North Seattle. As todays world is moving away from fossil fuels towards renewable energy, those with hydronic systems need the most efficient way to heat their homes. This system uses a full inverter outdoor unit, an indoor buffer tank with backup electrical elements, a plate heat exchanger for the domestic hot water heater, and the water heater itself is a hybrid electric, for backup. This system requires less maintenance than a condensing boiler system, is economical, and environment-friendly.
EAST SEATTLE MECH ROOM OVERHAUL
This old and beautiful Capitol Hill home had a proper burial of its original cast iron boiler, which started out with wood, later converted to oil, and then natural gas. There was an irreparable rusted-through crack, and the beast had to go. It was replaced with another good quality cast iron, condensing boiler. Most of the pipe work and all circulators were replaced. A mixing valve was added for an in-floor zone. The home's thermostats were eliminated, replaced with a fully automated, continuous-flow, outdoor reset system.
NW SEATTLE BOILER/INDIRECT REPLACE
A wall-hung natural gas condensing boiler, a stainless steel indirect water heater, and some hydronic components along with some copper were installed/replaced at this 10-year old, beautiful ultra-modern-chic home. The homeowner was constantly fighting with the previous poor quality boiler, and finally decided to switch to something much more reliable. This system is alive and operating well today in Ballard.
